Artist's Statement

My paintings are about things I enjoy, things that inspire me, whether that be a place, a song, or a food. When I approach one of these subjects I'm trying to convey all that I love about it, not merely its physical representation. If it's a place I'm trying to convey the vibe, the ambience I experience there. If it's a song I'm trying to give you the rhythm as well as my visualization of the lyrics. If it's a food (or coffee)---well, I'm trying to convey the flavor, the aroma. Although I am inspired visually, the paintings I make primarily for their image or color are usually drawn from my head, or are a combination of things I've seen in the real world. If I see a scene that's visually perfect in the world I would be more likely to simply take a picture of it and leave it at that. I paint what inspires me visually, intellectually, emotionally and gastronomically. I make paintings that I want to see which simply don't exist yet in the world.
